Leather care

Tidal pairs are cut from two materials: an unlined suede that breathes, and a soft nappa that takes a shine. Both improve with wear — and with five minutes of care a month, they will outlast most of your wardrobe.

Suede

Suede asks for very little: keep it dry, keep it brushed. Brush with a suede brush after wear, always in one direction, to lift the nap and release dust. Dubai is kind to suede — the enemy here is not rain but sand and dust.

For marks, use a suede eraser gently before reaching for anything liquid. A waterproofing spray made for suede, applied lightly twice a season, guards against the rare downpour and against spills.

The monthly ritual

  1. Remove dust with a soft suede brush, working in one direction.
  2. Lift any marks with a suede eraser — light strokes, no pressure.
  3. Check the sole edge and wipe it with a barely damp cloth.
  4. Let the pair rest a day with cedar shoe trees in.
  5. Once or twice a season, finish with a suede protector spray.

Nappa

Nappa needs even less. Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wear. Once a month, work a small amount of neutral leather cream in with a cloth, let it sit ten minutes, then buff. The leather will deepen in tone and resist drying.

Between wears

Rest each pair a day between wears — unlined leather needs a day to release moisture. Store with cedar shoe trees, in the dust bag, away from direct sun and away from air-conditioning vents, which dry leather as surely as heat.

What to avoid

Water & heat

If a pair gets wet, stuff it loosely with paper and let it dry slowly at room temperature. Never a hairdryer, never a radiator, never the sun — heat cracks leather.

Household products

No baby wipes, no detergent, no all-purpose cleaners. They strip the tannage. If in doubt, do nothing and write to us before trying anything.

Wearing them in

The suede relaxes half a size in the first week. Wear new pairs for shorter stretches at first and let the last do its work — do not force it with stretching sprays.

Loafers and slippers, cut on one last and finished by hand in small runs.
